Air plate trimmers are a type of variable capacitor used for fine-tuning radio-frequency (RF) circuits. They use air as the dielectric (insulating medium) between metal plates, which makes them very stable and low-loss compared to many other capacitor types.
Air has properties that make it ideal for RF tuning due to Very low dielectric loss → better RF efficiency, High-Q factor (important for tuned circuits), very stable with temperature, no dielectric absorption, and can handle relatively high voltages.
