Custom Work

Passive Plus (PPI) is known for offering a wide range of custom and semi-custom components. Many of our competitors do not offer these services. Our Engineering Team will work with Customers to best assist them in selecting the optimal PPI components that meets their requirements.

Custom Capacitance Values

Non-standard capacitance values within a given case size, tightened tolerances beyond standard offerings, or special value sets for matching networks or resonant circuits are useful when designing filters, amplifiers, or antennas that require precise tuning.

Custom Mounting & Mechanical Options

Great for customers dealing with unique board materials or harsh environments options include leaded versions of chip capacitors, special terminations (e.g., nickel barrier, solder alternatives), edge metallization changes, or non-standard pad configurations.

Custom Testing & Screening

Often required for defense, aerospace, and medical designs, PPI is well known for offering military-style or application-specific screening, including additional Q / ESR testing across broad frequency ranges, Burn-in / life testing, High-voltage testing or Custom S-parameter sweep.

Custom Packaging / Kitting

PPI can build Custom design kits for specific projects (e.g., amplifier tuning, filter development). See Design Kits for more information.

Small-Run Custom Builds

Unlike many competitors, PPI can sometimes support low-volume prototype runs or short-run manufacturing of non-standard components. This is helpful for early-stage R&D or low-volume high-performance products.

Custom Screening, Testing & Qualification

PPI can design a test protocol around the customer’s environment, such as extended S-parameter testing, burn-in, Thermal cycling and high-voltage breakdown testing. This is often required for flight hardware, military programs, or mission-critical industrial equipment.

Modified Versions of Standard Components

Engineers often request subtle but critical changes to existing PPI parts, such as different termination metals, leaded or semi-custom terminations, special mounting designs or changes in case geometry. These variations are ideal for integrating PPI components into unusual PCB layouts or harsh environments.

Application-Specific Engineering

PPI will work directly with a customer to tailor components for specific system behavior. Defense and Aerospace, Medical RF (especially MRI), Semiconductor and plasma processing and High-frequency communications.

Engineer-to-Engineer Collaboration

The most important part of PPI’s custom work is the direct partnership. Customers share system requirements, challenges, or limitations; PPI engineers model and design solutions; and Custom iterations are created and evaluated. This is what sets PPI apart from larger manufacturers that only offer catalog parts with no customization.

When PPI says customers often “need more,” they’re referring to situations where standard catalog capacitors don’t fully meet a project’s electrical, mechanical, or environmental requirements. In those cases, PPI’s Engineering Team steps in to bridge the gap between what exists and what the design truly needs.

PPI’s custom work is all about helping customers go beyond standard capacitor performance by building tailored components or assemblies that match real-world, high-performance RF system needs.

Custom Capacitor Assemblies

PPI can combine multiple capacitors into a single, integrated assembly. These assemblies can be optimized for size, performance, or frequency behavior.

Examples include:

Series/parallel capacitor networks

To achieve Higher voltage rating, Higher capacitance, Lower ESR and Better thermal performance

Multi-capacitor modules

Used in High-power RF amplifiers, MRI and medical RF systems, Industrial generators and Aerospace RF sources
